pluralisms

i've noticed an increasing trend in pop-culture linguistics among kids [via those with whom i associate]

i call it...PLURALISMS. [it's the new 'hella'...trust me]

have i been guilty? of course nots. i remember doing it once [or twice] thinking: this could be cool/funny/newspeak and it felt queer.

a recent conversation [third-party view]:

"so what did you do?"

"first, i took her to the sizzlers cause she loves her some chickens fingers and some countrys fried potatoes"

"...ok, then where did you go next?"

"took her to ikeas, cause she loves to play houses. she's so cute when she smiles..."

"uh...cool. you saw '500 days of summer' then?"

"um, no. never heards about it [a blatant lie to cover embarassment]"

this happened. this is real. don't do it.

Wednesday

New Moon Ritual

the new moon is the birthing cycle of the moon's various phases. the new moon phase is an optimal time for planning and seeding your intentions. it is believed that if one writes down their wishes during the phase change, those wishes will carry immense power in being fulfilled.

my good friend candice is adept in such horoscopy and encouraged me to take advantage of the latest new moon phase change [january 15th 2am-6am]

i've never really been into astrology, but i'm always willing to try new things [hope this works]

Friday

the lovely bones

i bought the book [circa 2005] and have been meaning to read it since.

i recently saw the trailer for the peter jackson screen adaptation and have hurriedly been reading the book every night before bed; trying to finish it before it's release [today]

i never have nightmares, but almost every night since i began reading i've been having some intense dreams.

the book has opened up different facets of the human experience that i've never really experienced. it's beautiful.

Wednesday

1984

"we shall meet in the place where there is no darkness"

i finished 1984 today. learned the dangers of totalitarianism [via communism]

"You Americans are so gullible. No you won't accept communism outright, but we will keep feeding you small doses of socialism until you finally wake up and find you already have communism. We won't have to fight you, we'll so weaken your economy 'til you fall like over-ripe fruit into our hands."
-Nikita Khrushchev (1894-1971) Premier of the U.S.S.R.

even though the book is an extreme example of totalitarianism and what could happen if [for example] AMERICA evolved into a communist country, i do believe there are some parallels that can be drawn.

i am no radical. i don't believe that we are anywhere near communism. but i do believe that health care reform is one of those 'small doses of socialism' that we are warned of. In the link above (8:45) we are specifically warned of the dangers of socialized medicine.

a government that can promise all, can also take all.
